Common Types of Unnecessary Surgery August 13, 2012.
If you have been battling an illness or painful condition for some time, you may think that surgery is the only remedy that may help you. Your doctor may even tell you that. However, some surgeries are unnecessary and may do more harm than good.
Some of the most common unnecessary surgeries include:
- Knee Surgery – Many times, knee injury or pain can be resolved with physical therapy instead of an invasive procedure;
- Hysterectomy – Most women do not need this type of surgery because medications and hormone treatments usually remedy any issues;
- Spinal Surgery – This is one of the most dangerous types of surgeries because a mistake can result in paralysis. It should be considered only in the most severe cases; and
- Angioplasty – While this procedure may help in the event of a heart attack, it isn’t always necessary to have it. An aspirin regimen and other blood thinners may prove just as helpful.
If your doctor recommends that you undergo one of these procedures, you may want to seek a second opinion. If you already underwent unnecessary surgery and suffered a severe, permanent, and debilitating injury, call (440) 333-3800 to schedule a free case evaluation.
